SUMMARY:The Composer's Role in Filmmaking
DESCRIPTION:Let’s dive deep into the science of perception and how sound and music guide viewers into understanding a story beyond what is seen on screen. We’ll get into the nitty gritty of how music is used in the art of storytelling as well as the process of getting a composer involved in a production.Cristina “Trinity” Vélez-Justo is a music composer for film and media\, relocated from LA in 2018\, after finishing the Emmy’s music internship and working as an assistant to a few established composers. Currently\, she works full-time from Charlotte through her business\, ReelScoring\, scoring features\, shorts\, commercials\, video games\, etc. Trinity also teaches as an adjunct professor at UNC School of the Arts in the MFA Film Music Composition program in Winston-Salem (where she received her MFA) as well as guest-lectures at various universities\, film festivals and groups; educating industry professionals on the importance of music in film and how to successfully work with a composer.She is an active member of the Charlotte film community\, an avid educator in cultivating strong and healthy professional relationships\, and founder of the South Charlotte Film-Folk Meetup\, and the Magnolia Film Society (MFS) – a group that supports and empowers aspiring and professional film-making women of Charlotte and surrounding areas.

All films submitted are screened and judges determine various awards including “Best Film” which then represents the city at Filmapalooza\, the international competition.
